Conferences provide reliable routes for creating local impact in the community, and need our support in becoming more uniformly accessible, diverse, and inclusive environments. Women in Agile supports conferences by offering consultation and educational materials, for both conference organizers and participants, in the interest areas below.
IMPACT
Greater diversity representation – We can examine both your conference submissions and speaker gender and diversity ratios, and give advice to help improve them over time. We also create and support paired events with other conferences to help create community. Anyone can run them! Check out some of our upcoming events!
Speaker fee transparency – We know not all conferences can afford to pay participating speakers, but we think it’s important to be transparent about what expenses are covered (and for whom). We encourage speakers to solicit compensation and also provide them guidance on negotiation, so that they are recognized and compensated fairly wherever possible.
Attendee scholarships – When there are limited funds available, Women in Agile is open to exploring other ways to sponsor conference speaking, attendance, training, and other business ventures that align with our mission. Please contact us to learn more.
Universal Code of Conduct – Conferences and events should provide safe and inclusive space for attendees to network and learn. Unfortunately, some conferences either do not have codes of conduct in place, or established policies and procedures relating to them are not followed. Women in Agile provides consultation and templates for event codes of conduct, and encourages participants to advocate for implementation and/or enforcement of them.
